They were the last of the Battlin' Babes, a legendary all-female fishing crew from the tiny island of Aisling, a place where the women held the sea as their own. Their grandmother, Maeve, had been the captain of the *Sea Serpent*, a formidable vessel that had once ruled the fishing grounds, her name whispered with respect and awe throughout the fishing community.

This storm, however, was different.  It was relentless, a malevolent entity intent on swallowing them whole.  The radio sputtered uselessly, their pleas for help lost in the cacophony of wind and waves.  The *Seraphina*, battered and bruised, groaned under the strain.  A monstrous wave, a liquid mountain, reared up before them, threatening to crush them beneath its icy grip.

“Hold on, Elara!” Maya shouted over the roar of the wind, her voice raw.  She wrestled with the helm, her muscles screaming in protest.  The wave crashed over them, a crushing weight that stole their breath and plunged them into icy darkness.

When Maya surfaced, gasping for air, the *Seraphina* was a wreck, splintered wood and broken rigging scattered across the raging waves.  Elara was clinging to a piece of driftwood, her face pale and drawn.  The storm, though still raging, seemed to have lost some of its ferocity.
